About Billy Falls

A short distance from Southwood Road is a gorgeous, fanning waterfall on Billy Creek. Unoficially-named Billy Falls drop 10 metres over a rippling, textured cliff into a large but discoloured pool. The falls are a short but steep off track hike from Southwood Road through forest burnt out by the 2019 bushfires, probably contributing to the very brown colour of the creek.

To find Billy Falls, travel around 5km along Southwood Road from the intersection with Arve Road (coming from Geeveston), until a large pullout is reached on the left, just before the road crosses a culvert over Lidgerwood Creek. Walk a couple hundred metres up the road, past the creek, then head into the bush where the road appears closest to the waterfall. Aim for just downstream of the falls, and in no more than 200 metres you will come to views of the waterfall from atop the creek's drainage. You could turn around here as there are reasonable photos to be had from up high, and to get to the base of Billy Falls requires a near-vertical scramble down the hill, though of course the views from the base are far superior.

For an off track hike, Billy Falls is a pleasantly short excursion and given its proximity to a major thoroughfare, the falls are surprisingly significant in their size to have remained undocumented.
