About Twin Cascade Falls

In the foothills of the Hartz Mountains is a series of four waterfalls on an unnamed tributary to Foaming Creek, unofficially known as the "Twin Falls Complex"; the name deriving from the largest falls in the set, Twin Jet Falls. Twin Cascade Falls is the third falls down from the road, and features a more graceful cascading characteristic different to the rest of the falls in the set, but still emerging in a split-falls style at the top of its drop.

To find Twin Cascade Falls and the rest of the complex, turn onto the Arve Loop Road from Arve Road, then take a left turn onto an unnamed spur road, heading uphill along this little used, muddy road (4WD/AWD recommended) until you come to another fork in the road where it's best to park and use as a turning circle (GPS coords for parking -43.1545, 146.76135). From the parking spot, head back down the road about 30 metres to the closest point between the road and falls, and down towards the creek.

Twin Cascade Falls are 100 metres downstream from Little Twin Falls, and it's worth visiting both Little Twin and Twin Step Falls first, but the stretch between Little Twin and Twin Cascade Falls, while short, is the toughest stretch of the whole hike. There is some signficant treefall resulting from the 2019 fires, and thick low regrowth that makes finding good footing very difficult in places. Additionally, the final descent to the base is very steep and requires taking a wide arc to avoid the line of cliffs around the fallls. Once at the base of Twin Cascade Falls, some further scrambling is needed to get a clear shot, with the base being very overgrown, and the falls are really only photographable from very close up.

If you've made it this far, it is recommended to continue another 80 metres downstream to Twin Jet Falls, the largest and most impressive falls in the complex.
