About Regnans Falls

One of the many hidden waterfalls to discover in the Styx Valley, Regnans Falls is a gorgeous cascading falls that drops 15-20 metres over several tiers in a lush rainforest setting. The falls are little known and rarely visited, with no made trail leading to them. As such, a visit should only be attempted by experienced bushwalkers.

To reach the falls, travel to the Styx Big Tree walk via Maydena, then continue about 200 metres further past the developed carpark and track until you reach a big bend in the road, under which the creek responsible for Regnans Falls flows. Park here, and enter the forest to begin the walk upstream. As of 2017, some pink tapes marked a trail of sorts on the western (right side looking upstream) side of the creek, although these may no longer be there in 2021. Despite the possibility of some tapes being around, you will largely be on your own as you travel upstream towards the falls. The creek has to be zigzagged a few times, and the ground is entirely unmodified, making it often slippery and unstable. The walk is only about half an hour each way, until you come to the big log at the base of the falls. Regnans Falls is bigger than it appears at first glance, and with a bit of additional exploring it's possible to clamber up to some hidden upper tiers.

While this is a difficult off track hike, it is not too long, and well worth the effort to find this really pretty little waterfall. Regnans Falls can be combined with the nearby Big Trees Walk, the Tolkien Track and waterfall a little further up the road, or any of the numerous other waterfalls to discover in the Styx.
