About Cerberus Falls

Unnoficially named after the plains that give rise to the creek, Cerberus Falls is an interesting waterfall accessed by a difficult off track hike from Styx Road. The falls tumble over a twisting upper tier before making a sheer 15 metre plunge, then continuing cascading downstream towards the Styx River. The twisting nature of the falls mean it is larger than it first appears, and can be photographed from a number of vantage points.

To reach the Cerberus Falls, park in a small pullout on Styx Road near its creek, 20km from the Karanja end of Styx Road or 28km from the Maydena end. From there, hike through recently clearfelled forest up a ridgeline on the western side of the creek until roughly level with the elevation of the falls. At this point, turn towards the falls and follow the cliffline around to creek level. There is some very steep terrain and unstable ground particularly in the cleared area, making this a hike definitely only to be attempted by experienced bushwalkers. Unlike many of the other Styx waterfalls, there is also no nice, open rainforest to walk through here, and instead you will find some pretty nasty scrubby bush that makes this a hike more about the scenery of the destination than the journey.
