About Eurydice Falls

Hidden in a rarely-visited section of the Styx Valley is an unnamed, unmarked waterfall on Eurydice Creek that makes a spectacular 40 metre plunge in a fairly nondescript location surrounded by clear felled rainforest. With no trail or hint of this waterfall existing from the road, it is definitely one only for experienced hikers.

The walk itself is just a bushbash of about 500 metres up Eurydice Creek itself, so while it is impossible to get lost on the walk the greater navigation issue is finding the right creek to actually stop at on the road, and it is highly recommended that a GPS be used. Eurydice Creek is a 19km drive from the Karanja end of Styx Road (or 29km from the Maydena end), and there is a small pullout providing room to park beside the road. The creek is located about 800 metres after a bridge across the Styx River, which provides a useful landmark as you approach the falls.

The walk up Eurydice Creek is pretty typical as far as off track walks through Tasmanian creeks go, often stuffed with logs and typical hazards obstructing progress, but after a walk of approximately half an hour, or longer depending on your pace, the log-choked base of Eurydice Creek Falls is reached. It's a very challenging climb, but a scramble up the western bank of the creek reveals a clearer view of the full height of the falls including upper tiers that are mostly obstructed from below.

Despite the jarring contrast of nature and clear fell destruction, Eurydice Falls is among the most impressive of Tasmania's unnamed waterfalls, and is a great one to tick off for dedicated fall baggers. The creek is seasonal, however, so visit during the winter and spring months or after rain to see it at its best.
