About Westmorland Falls

Westmorland Falls is a magnificent hidden gem tucked away in lush rainforest, just a short 15 minute drive from Mole Creek. Driving to the waterfall from Mole Creek was relatively easy, though signage is rather poor. It is very easy to drive past the carpark area of the Westmorland Falls, due to lack of signage.

The track to the falls is marked by small ribbons and arrows that guide you through the dense scrub. The walk itself is typical for an uneven bush track with sections of the walk quite steep. After approximately 1 hour of walking, you reach Westmorland Falls and the effort is well worth it.

The Beauty

Prior to 2016 Westmorland Falls was surrounded by lush ferns and rainforest in what was a very intimate place along the creek. However, in 2016, massive flood waters washed out much of the banks of the creek around the waterfall. Today we can see much more of the waterfall than pre-flood times. Westmorland Falls is still rehabilitating from the floods. Parks and Wildlife have reconstructed access platforms downstream from Westmorland Falls, thus replacing a viewing platform that was washed away from the floods.

For photographers, there's many vantage points to photograph the waterfall, due to the walk taking you directly to the base of the falls. Adjacent to Westmorland Falls are small cascades which also make for lovely photographic opportunities.

If you're visiting North / North West Tasmania, Westmorland Falls is definitely worth checking out. For a full day of waterfalls, consider visiting Lobster Falls, near Mole Creek, or the beautiful Liffey Falls, just 30 minutes away by car.
