About New Town Falls

On the foothills of Mt. Wellington, New Town Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall that can be accessed from the Lenah Valley Track. The track will guide you to an upper tier of the waterfall (pictured). A larger tier of New Town Falls is slightly downstream, but cannot be seen due to the dense forest and the steepness of the area.

There are multiple routes you can take to reach Lenah Valley Track, and we opted to start our hike from Old Farm Road, parking our vehicle at a designated parking area where the commencement of the hiking trails begin. At the start of the walk, you will be presented with a variety of different hiking tracks and fire trails. we walked uphill along Myrtle Gully Track, enabling us to visit Secret Falls and Myrtle Gully Falls as well, the hike beyond those waterfalls can be quite steep at times, meandering along side Guy Fawkes Rivulet. The scenery is stunning, a delightful rainforest with very pretty small cascades working its way down Mt Wellington.

Eventually, the track will lead to the Old Farm Fire Trail, and walking west will take you to a junction where a hut exists, with multiple new tracks that can be taken. To reach Lenah Valley Track, you need to continue on the Old Farm Trail, which then heads in an easterly direction before turning north. From this track, Lenah Valley track will branch off on the left, and will lead you directly to New Town Falls.
