About Masons Falls

An old photo in the Libraries Tasmania catalogue shows an impressive waterfall labelled "Mason's Falls near Sheffield". This waterfall posed a bit of a mystery given that no only is no waterfall in Tasmania named Masons Falls, the only watercourse bearing the name Masons Creek in the north-west clearly has no waterfall on it. The next best thing therefore is this waterfall, not all that close to Sheffield but within the general area, and upstream of a road named Masons Road. It seems very plausible that the falls could once have been named after the same person as the nearby road, and by process of elimination it appears the most likely location though an exploratory mission is needed to determine this for certain.

Much of the downstream area is crown land but the falls themselves are on private land so permission is needed before attemping a mission.
