About Hidden Falls (Orford)

Tucked away in the hills behind Orford is a small waterfall on Griffiths Rivulet that cascades through a narrow notch in the cliffs, giving rise to its name given the majority of the falls' drop is hidden from all angles besides front on. While Hidden Falls is a pretty waterfall and photographers will enjoy the millky blue pool at the base, their small size and the substantial effort required to reach them makes this a hike really only worth the effort for the most dedicated waterfall baggers.

To reach the falls, take Wielangta Road from Orford, then making a left turn towards the Three Thumbs Lookout after a few kilometres. Shortly before the lookout a gated 4wd track heads in on the right, which is where the walk begins. There are a maze of roads leading in all directions so a GPS is definitely a necessity, but a few kilometres of mostly downhill walking eventually brings you to a deadend at the closest point possible to Griffiths Rivulet. At this point the hike proper begins, as it is an off track descent of 150 metres through scrubby bush from here to the rivulet, then another decent climb up the other side to reach another old 4wd track. Once up the other side, follow this track towards the falls, which will eventually bring you to an open plateau where the final part of the hike is again off track, picking a route down the steep bank to the base of Hidden Falls.
