About Emerald Falls

Downstream of the water intake on the North West Bay River at the end of the Pipeline Track the river cascades through a gorge of giant boulders and emerald green pools, and over a nice unnamed waterfall unofficially called Emerald Falls due to the brilliant colour of its pool. The river is greatly reduced in volume compared to Wellington Falls upstream thanks to the intake however usually retains at least some flow, making this a great summer swimming hole to seek out if you're up for a bit of an off track scramble down the river bed.

To find Emerald Falls, hike the Pipeline Track from Neika until it crosses the river near its terminus (roughly 7.5km). From here, scramble down to river level and rockhop downstream for about 200 metres, with a final nasty scramble to get to the base of Emerald Falls. Extreme care should be taken as the boulders in the river are massive and often slippery, but it is not a long distance and for those with some off track experience it shouldn't be the most challenging mission.
