About Upper Heemskirk Falls

Since the damning of Lake Pieman drowned 90% of the original Heemskirk Falls, Upper Heemskirk Falls is by far the most impressive waterfall on the Heemskirk River. The falls drop roughly 30 metres in an open, rugged setting.

Distant views of the falls can be obtained from Heemskirk Road but there is no track going up to the falls, though there have been proposals to develop a trail. Succesful trips have been made via some 4wd tracks that get closer to the falls, then working through the buttongrass plains up to the waterfall, but this is likely to be a tough, full day mission.
