About McLean Falls

McLeans Falls were mentioned by explorer and author Charles Whitham in his 1924 book "Western Tasmania", and appear to be a significant falls or possibly series of falls in a narrow gorge but with no obvious access besides a long off track hike.

An old photo in the Libraries Tasmania pictures a waterfall labelled "Zeehan Falls" and it is most likely that this is actually McLean Falls. The other named waterfalls around Zeehan including Cumberland, Lower and Upper Heemskirk Falls are plainly different waterfalls based on modern photographs. Additionally, the fall appears to be tall and significant, and there are no obvious unnamed falls around the area that would match the description. The photo, while grainy, also seems to show cliffs above the main fall pictured which would correspond well to the topo maps that show McClean Falls most likely being a tall, multi-tiered waterfall.
