Walls of Jerusalem National Park
In the Walls of Jerusalem National Park is the exceptional Grail Falls, a very large waterfall that flows along Moses Creek. It is just south of Chapter Lake, and is an excellent area for hiking enthusiasts to explore.
The hike commences at the very end of Mersey Forest Road where there is ample space to park a few cars. The Moses Creek Track commences by guiding you along the eastern side of Jacksons Creek. The area suffered bush fires in recent years, and the track is completely lost in places. New growth in the form of small ferns have sprouted everywhere, and you will need a GPS to guide you on your way. After nearly 1km of walking, you will need to cross Jacksons Creek by using the one man suspension bridge. The bridge does not have any safety wire or cages underneath the walking platform and extra special care walking along the steel beam is recommended. Once on the other side of the bridge, you will be greeted with signage advising you to clean your boots with the equipment provided to ensure no diseases enter into the World Heritage Area.
Finding the track on the western side of Jacksons Creek was also incredibly difficult due to overgrowth. There was also a distinct lack of markers throughout the track. However, with use of a GPS or a map & compass, you can walk in the general direction of the track. Once through the initial scrub, the track is recognisable. Along the hike you have to wade across at least one creek that isn't very deep, but deep enough to fill your boots with water. Be prepared to walk with wet socks along this track. The hike to Grail Falls is uphill for the most part, with a couple of steep sections to walk up. Your total climb to Grail Falls is over 400 metres, and you will reach an altitude of approximately 1000 metres above sea level. Because this is alpine area, and is subject to very changeable weather, warm clothing, and adequate supplies are a requirement when walking to Grail Falls.
It is possible to also reach Meribah Falls and Horeb Falls that is on the northen side of Chapter Lake. These waterfalls is off track walking through rather dense scrub. Only experienced hikers should attempt reaching the other waterfalls near by.
